Skyhill Farms was founded in 1990 on an 83-acre farm in the Carneros hills of Napa Valley. We started with three goats, Emily, Natalie and Rose. Doe-eyed Emily, with her floppy ears and wonderful disposition, is proudly featured on our labels. When we first started, the founder and owner, Amy Wend, delivered all the products throughout Northern California in an old stick shift pick-up truck. Parking on the San Francisco hills in an old truck was a bit daunting, so a lot of great stores and restaurants downtown were initially bypassed, and Skyhill products were mainly sold to outlying areas. We now have distributors handling most of the product placement, even though Amy still takes pleasure in delivering to local chefs.
Our newest farm, just minutes outside of Napa Valley, continues to be a prize in all aspects. With 200 acres of wide-open space, our goats have the luxury of rotating their grazing areas. The neighboring land and inhabitants consist mostly of sheep, boar goats and a variety of birds. We don't use any pesticides on the farm and are starting the process of becoming certified organic. We compost the land with our goat manure and enjoy the flourishing crops this great soil produces.
